Nella terza prova degli Internazionali d'Italia Marco Aurelio Fontana si conferma in buona forma, ma deve cedere alla sfortuna.
In Internazionali d'Italia third stage Marco Aurelio Fontana confirmed to be in good shape, but was really unlucky.
After winning last Sunday in Montichiari (BS), today in Nals (BZ) he had to settle for second place behind his team-mate Manuel Fumic (Cannondale Factory Racing). On the demanding path marked by a tough climb and a steep descent Prorider made the difference during the fourth round of the seven scheduled leaving the company of Fumic and Gerhard Kerschbaumer (I.Idro Drain Bianchi), at the end 4th behind Gehbauer, in the front of the race with him from the first round. The following lap because of a puncture he lost the gained advantage and found himself at the back of the German rider, without being able to return in first position.
Crossing the finish line Marco Aurelio Fontana commented on the race without hiding his disappointment: «I have made some mistakes. When I was leading the race I pulled on a straight line with a sharp rock, instead of avoiding it passing on the right or on the left. After the puncture, I increased the pace again but I wasn't feeling so good. In the past week I've trained a lot and after my attack I could not with another lap full gass. When I was about to catch Manuel I also slipped in the downhill, losing definitively the rhythm. I'm sorry about that because I was controlling the race, I knew where my rivals were strong and in wich points I was better then them, but in the end I wasn't fresh enough to win. Tomorrow is another day and the World Cup is just around the corner».
Next race on the calendar for Marco Aurelio Fontana is going to be the long-awaited XCO World Cup 1st stage in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, next Sunday 13th April.
